Dr Anandadeep Mandal is the Distinguished Chair of Digital Finance at the Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é and the founding director of the MSc Financial Technology programme. An applied mathematician by training, his work sits at the intersection of mathematical modelling, AI, finance and digital innovation. He holds a PhD in Probability Distribution Fitting from Cranfield University, dual Master’s degrees (in Management Science and in Finance & Investment) and an undergraduate degree in Electronics Engineering, laying the foundation for his data-driven, interdisciplinary research.

 

His current innovations include a patent-pending AI platform in digital education technology, designed to support educators in assessing complex, multi-modal student submissions with enhanced accuracy, transparency and scalability. This platform applies advanced AI and ensemble methods to streamline feedback and grading in digitally enabled learning environments.

 

Dr Mandal has successfully secured over £2 million in research funding, leading numerous projects funded by UKRI, UoB QR Funding and industry partners. His research spans ESG performance measurement, AI-enabled investment strategies, blockchain for financial transparency and the development of the Sustainable Efficiency Index (SEI), a novel metric addressing the limitations of traditional ESG ratings.

 

His impact extends beyond academia through strategic collaborations (NHS Trusts, NIHR, UK Government), directly influencing policy and practice in healthcare and finance. A strong advocate of inclusive public engagement, Dr Mandal regularly contributes to science festivals, delivers outreach for young learners, and has provided expert evidence to UK Parliamentary consultations on AI, sustainability and financial innovation.
