The Birmingham Law School Annual Lecture
The Birmingham Law School is launching a new series of high profile Annual Lectures which will begin with a lecture by of Georgetown University.
is Distinguished University Professor, Georgetown University’s highest academic rank conferred by the University President. Professor Gostin is Co-Faculty Director of the O’Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law and is the Founding O’Neill Chair in Global Health Law. He served as Associate Dean for Research at Georgetown Law from 2004 to 2008. In 2021, Professor Gostin received the Steve Goldberg Memorial Award for Community Service at Georgetown. He is Professor of Medicine at Georgetown University and Professor of Public Health at the Johns Hopkins University.
Professor Gostin is the Director of the World Health Organization Collaborating Center on National and Global Health Law. He supported the negotiation and drafting of the Pandemic Treaty adopted at the 2025 World Health Assembly. He also served on WHO’s Review Committee for amendments to the International Health Regulations (IHR) and assisted in the drafting and negotiations on the IHR, adopted by the World Health Assembly in 2024.
The lecture will be followed by a drinks reception in the Bramall Music Building rotunda.
